If you are seeking to make the transition from a science or mathematics-based career to become an engineer, or if you already have an engineering degree and would like to change paths to a different specialisation, the Master of Professional Engineering offers an accredited qualification that will enable you to practise in Australia and overseas. In the geomechanical specialisation you'll learn to examine soil and rock layers and determine their physical and chemical properties to design foundations and earthworks structures.

This degree will also help you develop the sound communication, management and decision-making capabilities needed to interpret and discuss complex issues in your area of specialisation. The program will provide you with the engineering professional practice and research skills that lead to recognition as an Australian graduate engineer. Your qualifications will be recognised internationally through the Washington Accord of the International Engineering Alliance.

Career paths for geomechanical engineering graduates include investigating sites to find out what is under the ground, designing foundations, planning and designing of road, rail and canal cuttings, offshore work investigating and designing cable routes, pipelines, foundations for offshore facilities and design of landfills for society's waste products.

If you would like to be part of Sydney's engineering research community, you may consider applying for admission to a research degree. Students completing a Master of Professional Engineering program with excellent average marks are eligible to undertake supervised research in the degree of Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy.

為來自中國的學生設計 Applicants need to have one of the following: a bachelor’s degree with first or second-class honours from the University of Sydney or another approved institution; an equivalent qualification that demonstrates sufficient research experience and capability. English Language Requirements: TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing; IELTS score: A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band; TOEFL - PBT score: A minimum result of 592 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing.
