As an English major at the University of New Haven, you’ll study contemporary fiction and poetry while you explore public speaking and writing for business. You’ll develop and hone an exceptional writing ability, develop critical thinking skills, and learn to communicate with clarity and strength through the written and spoken word.

Yes, you’ll study Shakespeare. But you’ll also gain the real-world skills that will make you a sought-after employee in virtually any field by:

• Choosing from a concentration in Literature, Writing or both
• Gaining a broad disciplinary background and training in the field
• Studying American humor, creative writing, film, African-American literature, the Victorian novel, popular American culture and more
• Having the chance to qualify for the Honors program, which enables you to be part of a very exclusive community of learners
• Gaining real-world experience through an internship
• Having the chance to join the Words Rhyming Into True Expression (WRITE) Poetry Club or the international honor society Sigma Tau Delta
• Getting individual attention from instructors thanks to small class sizes
