This program is designed to train geology students beyond the baccalaureate degree for professional employment or for advanced graduate work.

Geology is in the School of the Environment and participates in the Earth, Environment, & Society Doctoral Program. Specialized studies in hydrogeology, geomicrobiology, environmental geology, engineering geology, geomechanics, glaciology, and applied stratigraphy, along with multidisciplinary environmental science courses and seminars, will partially fulfill the requirements for the Ph.D. See Earth, Environment and Society Ph.D. for information relative to the Ph.D. program in Earth, Environment, & Society.

Geology and earth science address critical issues such as energy, water and mineral resources, climate, natural hazards, oceanography, environmental monitoring and cleanup, and much, much more! Geologists work in a variety of settings, including in natural resource companies, environmental consulting companies, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and universities. Many geologists do field work at least part of the time. Others spend their time in laboratories, classrooms or offices. Employment opportunities for geologists are very good. Most geology graduates with a strong academic background and good grades have no trouble finding employment if they are willing to move to a location where work is available. Over the next decade the number of geology job openings is expected to exceed the number of students graduating from university geology programs. A degree in geology or earth science also provides a solid foundation for those interested in careers in middle or secondary science education, science writing and editing and environmental law.

為來自中國的學生設計 To be admitted to PSU for a master’s program, applicants must satisfy University requirements and be accepted by the academic department in which the graduate study will occur. Admission eligibility is based on receipt of a baccalaureate degree equivalent to a United States four-year bachelor's degree from a college or university recognized as an institution of higher education by the Ministry of Education in the relevant country or be regionally accredited within the U.S. Regular Admission: To be considered for regular admission, applicants must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or the equivalent (on the U.S. 4.0 scale). Applicants who have earned 9 or more letter-graded graduate credits must have a minimum graduate GPA of 3.0 or the equivalent; this graduate GPA supersedes the undergraduate GPA. IELTS: 6.5 overall score with minimum sub scores of 6.5 in reading and writing, TOEFL score of Paper-based: 550 overall; 22 in writing with 20 in reading and listening, TOEFL score of Internet-based: Minimum overall score of 80 with minimum sub scores of 18 in reading and writing, PTE - Academic: 60 overall.
