在這里學什么？

PSU’s Art and Social Practice MFA defines what it means to be an artist in society. In our three-year, flexible-residency program, you’ll combine individual research, group work, and experiential learning to find new ways to engage with your art and the community. Our program’s blend of critical and professional practice, progressive pedagogy, collaborative social engagement, and transdisciplinary exploration produces an immersive educational experience.

This three-year 90-credit course of study encourages students to shape the direction of their own education and continually develop the program as a whole. Students connect their art practice to research in the field of Social Practice through electives and community partnerships, promoting cross-disciplinary engagement. Graduating students each produce a public graduate project and an in-depth written publication exploring a relevant connection to their practice. They also present a public artist lecture that surveys their work in the program. ART AND SOCIAL PRACTICE MASTER'S DEGREE: WHY PSU?

At Portland State University, we are pioneers in the field of social practice. Our continually evolving program, the oldest running Social Practice MFA program in the world, offers a unique combination of experiential learning, seminar discussions, and collaborative project making with strong ties to the Portland community as well as with organizations and individuals globally. We were recently rated as one of the top 15 art programs in the country by Artsy. Our program offers publication opportunities through the Social Practice Reference Points book series and SoFA Journal, opportunities to engage with ongoing community partnerships such as KSMoCA (King School Museum of Contemporary Art) and the Columbia River Correctional Institution. We also facilitate community-building events for our students, such as Assembly, an annual social practice conference where participants shape the collective experience by contributing to dialogue, group projects, workshops, and publications. When you graduate, you’ll publicly present your graduate project, which is a critical step toward becoming a working artist when you’ve graduated.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH A MASTER'S DEGREE IN ART AND SOCIAL PRACTICE?

Alumni from our program have secured tenure track teaching jobs, adjunct teaching jobs, have produced public art projects, and participated in major exhibitions. They work with museum education programs and non-profits, have started businesses, worked with governments, and have received numerous awards, grants, and fellowships.

為來自中國的學生設計 To be admitted to PSU for a master’s program, applicants must satisfy University requirements and be accepted by the academic department in which the graduate study will occur. Admission eligibility is based on receipt of a baccalaureate degree equivalent to a United States four-year bachelor's degree from a college or university recognized as an institution of higher education by the Ministry of Education in the relevant country or be regionally accredited within the U.S. Regular Admission: To be considered for regular admission, applicants must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or the equivalent (on the U.S. 4.0 scale). Applicants who have earned 9 or more letter-graded graduate credits must have a minimum graduate GPA of 3.0 or the equivalent; this graduate GPA supersedes the undergraduate GPA. IELTS: 6.5 overall score with minimum sub scores of 6.5 in reading and writing, TOEFL score of Paper-based: 550 overall; 22 in writing with 20 in reading and listening, TOEFL score of Internet-based: Minimum overall score of 80 with minimum sub scores of 18 in reading and writing, PTE - Academic: 60 overall.
