專業概況
在這里學什么?Graduate training in Sociology prioritizes community engagement and policy-relevant research focused on improving people’s daily lives and society more broadly. Students focus on the integration of theory with a variety of quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches to study the dynamics of human behavior and social interaction in substantive areas including health and medical sociology, environmental sociology, education, criminology, class/stratification, race/ethnicity, urban sociology, social movements, family, gender, and sexualities. The program aims to prepare graduates for research and service positions in government, the non-profit sector, private industry, and the academy.
The candidate pursuing a terminal master’s degree must complete a minimum of 45 graduate credits, including 25 credits in core sociology courses and 20 credits of electives (8 of which may be in departments other than sociology).
WHAT CAN I DO WITH A MASTER'S DEGREE IN SOCIOLOGY?
Some of our graduates have gone on to teach at colleges and universities or pursue doctoral studies in sociology and related fields. Others are helping create meaningful change as researchers in the private and public sectors, including Research Into Action, Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research, Veterans Affairs, OHSU, the State of Oregon, and Multnomah County's Division of Community Justice.

為來自中國的學生設計 To be admitted to PSU for a master’s program, applicants must satisfy University requirements and be accepted by the academic department in which the graduate study will occur. Admission eligibility is based on receipt of a baccalaureate degree equivalent to a United States four-year bachelor's degree from a college or university recognized as an institution of higher education by the Ministry of Education in the relevant country or be regionally accredited within the U.S. Regular Admission: To be considered for regular admission, applicants must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or the equivalent (on the U.S. 4.0 scale). Applicants who have earned 9 or more letter-graded graduate credits must have a minimum graduate GPA of 3.0 or the equivalent; this graduate GPA supersedes the undergraduate GPA. IELTS: 6.5 overall score with minimum sub scores of 6.5 in reading and writing, TOEFL score of Paper-based: 550 overall; 22 in writing with 20 in reading and listening, TOEFL score of Internet-based: Minimum overall score of 80 with minimum sub scores of 18 in reading and writing, PTE - Academic: 60 overall.課程信息
